Wes Hurley’s autobiographical dark comedy is about a young boy growing up in the collapsing USSR, his courageous mail-order bride mother, and their adventurous escape to Seattle in the ‘90s. Full of unexpected twists, this film is an immigrant’s take on the American Dream and the power of cinema, proving that life is often stranger than fiction.

Director Wes Hurley is Russian-born and raised, now based in Seattle. He has made two feature films, dozens of shorts, and two seasons of critically acclaimed comedy series Capitol Hill. Hurley is a recipient of Creative Capitol Award, Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture Award, Advocate Magazine’s Person to Watch, and City Arts Magazine’s Artist of the Year. His autobiographical doc Little Potato (co-directed with Nathan Miller) won dozens of awards, including the Oscar-qualifying Jury Prize at SXSW. Hurley’s story and his work have been featured on BBC, NPR, The Atlantic, Vice, Out, The Wrap, Huffington Post, The Advocate, and Topic, among others.
