Whitman Ties, the Kirkmans, and Whitman College opens at the Kirkman House Museum and coincides with the beginning of a new academic year at Whitman College.

William Kirkman played a vital role in founding Whitman College and sustaining it through difficult years. After William died in 1893, his wife Isabella donated their home to Whitman College to function as the College's first male dorm.
